The Streak Blog

The Streak is a short story in the book 145th street by Walter Dean Myers. This story is about a boy named Jamie and how he is having really bad luck. First he missed the shot in the basketball game, then he broke the bottle in the locker room, next he broke the slide in biology, then he dumped milk on the toughest kid in school, Maurice Dupre, after that he banged up his ankle at home, he also left his wallet at school, and finally he flunked his English test. His friend, Froggy Williams suggests that he is having a bad streak. A streak is when things good or bad happen to you continuesly. He also says if you had a bad streak, later you will have a good streak. Since seven bad things happened to Jamie, Froggy thinks that seven good things would happen to him. At first Janie noticed his good streak by throwing an egg and it just so happens it land in the egg carton safe and sound. Other good things happened to him such as: he did well on his pop quiz, he got a free soda, he found out Celia was allergic to flowers, his dad gave him a $100, he made the shot through the waste basket, and he made the winning shot in the basketball game. All of his streaks were gone, and he still didn't ask Celia to the dance. Then in the end she asked him out because she was on a streak. I really liked this story, it was amusing and fun to read with the class. As we read further, I kind of got a little bit bored about the luck thing. Froggy and Jamie were making a big deal over this streak thing. I pretty much predicted what was going to happen next. I knew he wouldn't have enough streaks left to ask Celia to the dance. I also figured that his last streak was going to be wasted on the winning shot in the basketball game! Overall, I thought this book was pretty good. I think the message to this story was don't rely anything on luck. I believe in luck but luck won't make a girl go out with you. If you like the girl ask her out, you don't have to wait for a streak to make it happen.

What Mr.Mattero Did #2

I have finished the book and I must say I am in total shock. These girls had the nerve to lie about something so serious. They changed the lives of the Mattero family. Now Mr.Mattero stopped teaching music and he started drinking again. They went through alot espeacially Melody. I loved Melody in this book even though his father was accused of this she always believed in him. I loved it when she tackled Claire. She deserved it, that brat! Also the only reason they did that was because they were bored in his class. How stupid of them! All they could have done was ask the principal to change thier classes. But no they said that Mr.Mattero touch them in a bad matter. I believed them! Like now I can't trust people anymore like I have to look at the other side of the story. This book was awesome! Another thing the three girls were best friends and because of this they got seperated. They went to different school and never spoke. I know that they never meant for this to happen but still thats no excuse. They should have known that there be police investiagtions, Mr.Mattero having suspension of teaching, and gossip. I'm really upset about these girls actions. Like I hope they get to go to that kid's jail so they can learn a lesson. Poor, Mr.Mattero too like his whole life changed. He gave up on teaching which is a big thing, he gave up on his career, his passion. And that all could have been prevented if those girls didn't lie. Also Melanie, one of her friends, Annie didn't sleep over her house because of this. Her parents were scared that Mr.Mattero would touch thier daughter. I know they have every right to do that I mean there parents. They protect you from people even though those people aren't dangerous. What else? Oh yeah they also waited forever to finally spill the truth. I mean come on! Well, overall this book was really good and I really enjoyed reading it.

What Mr.Mattero Did #1

This book has two sides of what did Mr.Mattero really did but which one do you believe? I just started reading this book and both sides seems to be telling the truth but one one of them has to be lying. One side are these three seventh graders, Jenna, Suzanne, and Claire. Them three told thier principal that there music teacher Mr.Mattero has touch in a matter that no teacher should have done. Are they telling the truth? Well, they are are old enough to understand that when you lie about someting serious you can get into big trouble. So there is no reason to lie about something like that. I mean they are girls in the seventh grade, they are innocent and young. I would think they would be telling the truth. The other side is Mr.Mattero, the music teacher. He seems like a nice guy and he also has a daughter, named Melanie. She has never notice anything bad about her dad. So why would Mattero do such a thing when he has a wife and kids. That doesn't make any sense, why would he risk going to jail and make his whole family suffer his mistakes. I doubt that he would do such a thing. So that is why I really do not know who side I should take. The seventh graders who have no reason to lie or the music teacher who has a family.

Wake by Lisa McMann

I have recently started reading this book. So really nothing has happened. So far it just shows how her life is hard because her family lives on welfare and her mom is a alcoholic. Most of the time her mother is passed out on the couch and doesn't even care if Janie came home saftley. Janie also has a secret she has this power to go into other people's dream. She doesn't mean to she actully hates it, I think she wants to dream her own dreams. The only thing I hate about this cook is that every chapter she is a different age. Now she is 16, I think it's probably going to stay at that age. Also Janie had a sleep over with her best friend Carrie and her bully Melanie. She didn't mind but she perfer that Melanie wasn't there. Carrie is Melanie's friend. At the sleepover when it was time to sleep, it took a while for Janie to go. She then ended up in Melanie's dream where she kisses Carrie. Janie was shocked that Melanie dreams about kissing Carrie. Janie also went into Carrie's dream but it was more like a nightmare. They were near some river and this small boy was drowning. Carrie tryed to reach for him but the currents were too strong. The little boy was then eatin by sharks. Carrie screamed. I think it was probably her brother because she was searching for him and he was small. Maybe like 6. Even Janie says that Carrie never talks about her family members and her parents fight alot. Janie is now trying to see what the nightmare was about.
